I like eating soup in summer. I like walking. I like when the sun makes me break a sweat. I like the small restaurants that don’t try and make small talk. I like the streets that are shaded in the middle of the day. I like that they have the best breezes because at some point I have to remember that the soup in hand will still be fighting to break the tie with my body temperature by the time I’m seated in a fan-less cubicle. I like run-on sentences. I like eating soup in summer.

I woke up at 5:00 in the morning to take this photo. If I remember correctly, it’d been planned the night before and I was lucky to catch the clouds like this. Cold nights seem to have the brightest mornings. I do, for sure, remember racing the clock to find the perfect spot: one where the sun was rising and the horizon was uninvaded.

Not too far from home is where I found it (but it was doubtful that if not for the cause and effects of Thanksgiving weekend 2008, I’d even ever be made aware of this road.)

What strikes my eye is the crossroads of the elements that compose the vantage point. Seeing the almost haunting darkness connect to the contrast in the sky, with your eyes quickly leading to the vague horizon where the opposing car lights meet; one speeding by and one curiously to the side, the latter almost appears as if it were watching the passerbys. The powerlines contribute a nice balance too.

Oranges and blues. The light breaking through.
